Continua l’approfondimento di Radio Bicocca dedicato alle miniserie tv. Se la settimana scorsa vi abbiamo proposto titoli di vario genere, questa settimana ci concentriamo sulle miniserie thriller. Anche questa volta abbiamo selezionato 5 titoli che, siamo sicuri, vi lasceranno col fiato sospeso.
The Undoing
2020, 6 puntate (60 min. circa per episodio)
Ultimo successo targato HBO, in Italia distribuito da Sky (trailer) o Now TV. Subito si nota la presenza di una magistrale Nicole Kidman nei panni della protagonista: Nicole Fraser, accompagnata da un magnifico Hugh Grant, nei panni del marito: Johnatan Fraser. La storia è tratta dal romanzo Storia di una famiglia felice, di Jean Hanff Korelitz.
Una coppia americana “qualunque“, che vive in un’appartemento alquanto lussuoso nella magnifica cornice di Manhattan. Lei psicoterapeuta affermata, mentre lui è un prestigioso oncologo, che ha dedicato il suo lavoro al trattamento e alla cura dei bambini affetti da terribili forme di tumore. Due soggetti senza dubbio eccelsi, la coppia perfetta (si nota infatti una lodevole sintonia tra i due, sia come coppia innamorata che come genitori, amici, personaggi pubblici) ha anche un figlio adolescente che frequenta un’esclusiva scuola privata (sponsorizzata dal nonno – Donald Sutherland – ultraricco)…e una vita senza dubbio invidiabile. Da come si pone all’inizio sembrerebbe la famiglia del Mulino Bianco, ma, come dice il titolo stesso del telefilm “le verità non dette” usciranno…un poco alla volta.
Non aggiungiamo altro, per evitare che ci segnialiate per spoiler, ma a man mano la loro monotona perfetta vita di famiglia verrà squarciata, una dirompente scomparsa e avvenimenti alquanto misteriori si susseguiranno in una tragica spirale di eventi. Fino all’ultimo episodio avrete dubbi su chi ha fatto cosa e, soprattutto, perché.
Non possiamo non menzionare nel cast la presenza della “nostra” Matilda De Angelis (nel ruolo di Elena Alves), che ha spiccato anche nella recente produzione Netflix L’isola delle rose.
Littles Fires Everywhere
2020, 8 puntate (60 min. circa per episodio)
Una storia non banale, non sapremmo come altro descriverla (qui il trailer). Anche qui, inizialmente, ci viene presentata la famiglia tipo americana: i Richardson. Nell’America degli anni ’90 nel quariere di Shaker Heights, la biondissima Elena (Reese Whiterspoon) e il coniuge Bill (Joshua Jackson), bianchi, coi denti alla mentadent e l’abbigliamento perfetto, sono una giovane coppia qualunque che incarna il sogno americano di una vita di successo. Hanno quattro figli, che possiamo così riassumere: lo sportivo (Tripp), la cheerleader che vuole andare a Yale (Lexie), l’alternativa e Moody, lo studioso carino.
I Richardson conducono una vita tranquilla nella loro grande villa, organizzata da Elena, che grazie a un enorme planner appiccicato sul frigo e la sua agenda sempre aggiornata, controlla la vita di famiglia. La loro quotidianità viene improvvisamente stravolta dall’arrivo in città di Pearl e sua madre Mia (Kerry Washington), un’artista, che ricercano un’abitazione dove vivere in città. Il mescolarsi dei due nuclei familiari, che sono per certi versi complementari e opposti, darà luogo a una trama avvincente. Il primo episodio si apre con un incendio che ha divorato la dimora dei Richarson, dalla quale viene tolta e salvata, in extremis, Elena. Chi ha appiccato il fuoco? O è stato un incidente?
Il soggetto della storia è tratto dall’omonimo libro di Celeste Ng (2016) e siamo certi che non vi deluderà. Talvolta le puntate scorrono lente, altri episodi invece sono ricchi di colpi di scena. Ma ciò che colpisce soprattutto è la bravura attoriale delle due donne protagoniste, Mia e Elena: due madri, così diverse e così simili. Un racconto che riesce a parlare di varie sfaccettature della maternità in modo profondo, talvolta crudo, ma anche veritiero. Protagoniste indiscusse della trama sono le donne in questo racconto, ma vengono trattati anche temi come l’adozione, il black movement e la discriminazione.
The Third Day
2020, 6 puntate (60 min. circa per episodio)
Jude Law è già un ottimo motivo per vedere questa miniserie, distribuita da HBO e Sky Atlantic (qui il trailer). La storia è ambientata sull’isola britannica di Osea, connessa alla terra ferma da un labile lembo di terra che viene sommerso dall’alta marea in orari ben precisi. La trama è alquanto intrecciata e la struttura della serie si divide in ben tre parti: Estate, Autunno e Inverno, nella prima vediamo gli avvenimenti dal punto di vista di un uomo mentre nell’ultima parte seguiamo le vicende sull’isola di una donna. L’episodio Autunno, la seconda parte, è stato trasmesso in modalità live come un evento speciale in diretta su Sky Arts Inghilterra e sulla pagina Facebook di HBO.
Tornando ai protagonisti: lui si chiama Sam ed è interpretato da Jude Law, mentre la donna, Helen, è interpretata da Naomie Harris. Tutto comincia da Sam, che sta guidando su una strada sperduta nella campagna inglese, quando ad un certo punto la sua auto si blocca. Da qui in poi si susseguono avvenimenti strani e particolari, fino a farlo entrare in contatto con la comunità dell’isola.
La sceneggiatura e i paesaggi mostrati sono ciò che colpiscono di più, a parer nostro. Le visuali, a tratti psichedeliche, sono molto realistiche e in alcuni momenti vengono adottati degli escamotage particolari che ci fanno vedere la scena dal punto di vista del protagonista, facendoci immergere al 100% nell’azione. Questa miniserie è molto particolare, vi avvisiamo, intrisa di misteri (che a volte nemmeno vengono svelati, ma questo è anche il suo bello) e con richiami folkloristici, è bello infatti scoprire insieme alla visione la storia dell’isola misteriosa di Osea. Si affrontano anche il tema del trauma, soprattutto dei traumi non superati e affrontati, delle radici culturali e della storia. Anche qui troviamo dei personaggi femminili forti e tenaci, in primis Helen ma anche la (a volte) saggia signora Martin.
American Crime Story – Il caso di O.J. Simpson
2016, 10 puntate (45 minuti per episodio)
Questa non è proprio una “miniserie” trattandosi della prima stagione di due, di American Crime Story. Però essendo una serie antologica, dunque che narra una storia a sé stante rispetto alla stagione successiva abbiamo voluto comunque inserirla in quest’elenco poiché è davvero fatta molto bene. In Italia è disponibile su Netflix, notiamo che è stata prodotta da Ryan Murphy, come Hollywood e American Horror Story (sua serie “sorella” di genere horror).
In questa serie si racconta in modo avvincente e coinvolgente un evento della cronaca nera americana seguendo tutte le fasi delle indagini e del processo, che ha segnato gli anni ’90, ossia l’omicidio di Nicole Brown Simpson e Ron Goldman avvenuto il 13 giugno 1994. Il primo accusato fu il marito di lei, che era niente popodimeno che O.J. Simpson, noto giocatore di football americano.
Non solo la storia è narrata in modo preciso, ma anche il cast di attori è ottimo, per citarne alcuni: Sarah Paulson interpreta l’avvocato Marcia Clark, Robert Kardashian (si, il padre di Kim&co) è interpretato invece da David Schwimmer (ovvero: Ross di Friends) mentre O.J. è Cuba Gooding Jr., vincitore di un Oscar per il suo ruolo in Jerry McGuire, 1997. Sia questa prima stagione di American Crime Story che la successiva (dedicata al Caso dell’Omicidio Versace) sono state pluripremiate agli Emmy e ai Golden Globe, noi non possiamo far altro che consigliarvi di vederla!

2016, 8 puntate (56-96 minuti per episodio)
Una vera chicca, spesso poco conosciuta ma è impossibile non citarla in questo elenco. Distribuita da HBO e Sky Atlantic, una garanzia di qualità. Si tratta di una miniserie di 8 puntate, una più avvincente dell’altra. La trama ruota attorno agli avvenimenti di quella sera in cui Nasir (detto Naz), ruba il taxi del padre per andare ad un festa. Da quel momento in poi la sua vita cambierà totalmente, tra un incontro fatale e una morte improvvisa, Naz dovrà capire cosa fare. E noi insieme a lui. Non vi sveliamo altro perché sarebbe atroce e vi rovineremmo la visione di questo capolavoro del piccolo schermo.
Il primo episodio è costruito egregiamente sulle gesta di quella notte e si concentra sulla figura di Naz. Il protagonista, un giovane universitario di origini pakistane, che vive nella periferia della grande mela e divide le sue giornate tra studio e famiglia. Un ragazzo come tanti, che si sente “diverso” per via delle sue origini e non si sente capito. Una sera decide quindi di cambiare e provare a raggiungere una festa dove divertirsi coi suoi amici. Ce la farà? Cosa succederà? Lo scoprirete puntata dopo puntata, in un turbinio di colpi di scena.
